I moved to Miami three years ago with two suitcases and a job that pays the rent but not much else. Most nights I end up barefoot in the kitchen at stupid hours, stirring something that smells like my mom's apartment in Queens. The heat here sticks to everything, so I keep the blinds cracked and the fan on low while I taste test straight from the pot. When I'm not cooking I like the gym at the end of my block, the one with the cracked mirror and the old trainer who calls me 'kid' even though I'm almost thirty. I send voice notes instead of long texts because my thumbs are slow, and I tend to circle back to the same little details days later like the song you mentioned or the shirt you wore in that one photo. I come across confident in pictures but I'm actually shy about asking for what I want until I'm sure it's mutual. Once I feel safe I stop holding back. I like the way tension builds when someone knows how to read between the lines and then says it plain.
