I moved here three years ago for work and never left. The city feels right once the sun drops and the lake turns that deep navy color. I work in marketing for a small firm downtown but my real hours happen after midnight when I start chopping onions and humming to old Highlife tracks. People think I am quiet until they catch me laughing with my whole body. I like men who notice small things like the way my hair curls tighter when it rains. I send voice notes when I miss someone and pictures when I want them closer. I grew up in Lagos with my grandmother teaching me to season everything twice. Now my kitchen smells like her on nights I cannot sleep. I want someone who will stay up with me while the rice simmers and who does not mind if I climb into their lap still wearing my apron. I am not looking for perfect, just present.
