DLsite Review (2026): Japan's Giant Doujin Download Store

This DLsite review starts with the one-line answer: DLsite is a legitimate Japanese store where you buy adult games, manga, CG, video and voice works one by one, with a free filter for no-cost works. Quick verdict: it is the reference doujin store, but charges are made in yen and foreign cards sometimes fail, so points are the safer way to pay.

DLsite is a Japanese digital download store for independent and commercial adult works: games, manga, CG illustrations, video and voice or ASMR. It has an English interface and a dedicated English works section, alongside the much larger Japanese catalogue. Independent reviews note it has been running since the 1990s.

Characters in the store's adult works are presented as adults, and the adult sections sit behind an 18+ confirmation.

DLsite is a store, so most works are bought one by one; there is also a free filter for no-cost works. Prices are set per work and shown in your currency, and discounts and coupons rotate constantly, so we do not quote them. The site uses a points system and accepts credit cards among other payment methods.

• Works sorted by format: games (RPG, action, simulation and more), manga, CG, video and voice/ASMR
• English versions marked [ENG Ver.], plus fan translations through the Translators Unite program
• Rankings, upcoming works and staff picks
• A web viewer, the DLsite Play service and the DLsite Nest PC client for your library
• Points programme on purchases

DLsite's payment guide says every charge is made in Japanese yen and converted by your card issuer, so the price shown in your currency is an estimate. It warns that non-Japanese credit cards sometimes fail and suggests international buyers purchase DLsite points instead. A small authorisation hold may appear and is refunded later; card purchases are single payments and show as “DLsite” on your statement.

The help centre covers two-factor login, browser streaming, PlayDRM-protected titles, smartphone games and the DLsite Nest client, and the interface runs in over a dozen languages. Compared with Nutaku, which focuses on free-to-play games, DLsite is a buy-to-own store.

If you mostly want English comics, our Irodori Comics review covers a licensed English doujinshi shop. Gamers should read the Nutaku review for free-to-play titles, and the Kamihime Project R review looks at one well-known fantasy game in depth.

For anyone into Japanese adult games and doujin, DLsite is the reference store: buying here supports the creators directly and gets you legitimate files. The challenge is navigation, as the catalogue is vast and many works are Japanese-only. Filtering by English works helps a lot. If you prefer an anime-style character who chats with you rather than a fixed story, AI Angels is a different take on the same fantasy.

DLsite is a legitimate store, which is the safest way to get Japanese adult games compared with unofficial uploads that can carry malware. Install games only from the files you download from your DLsite library. Check the product page for language, format and system requirements before buying, since digital sales are generally final.
